Overview

Aromatics

ExxonMobil Chemical has been a leader in development and application of leading-edge technologies for aromatics production since the discovery of ZSM-5 in the late 1960's. Technologies for paraxylene and benzene production include: selective toluene disproportionation, xylene isomerization, and heavy aromatics transalkylation. ExxonMobil's expertise in zeolite catalysts also led to the development of state-of-the-art ethylbenzene and cumene technologies. Many of these technologies and catalysts have been tested and demonstrated in ExxonMobil and its affiliates plants around the world and are available for License.

Olefins

ExxonMobil was a pioneer in developing steam cracking technology, used to produce olefins such as ethylene and propylene. Olefins are basic building blocks of the petrochemical industry.

Our proprietary steam cracking furnace technology provides superior ethylene yield, greater feedstock flexibility, reduced energy consumption, and longer periods between maintenance downtimes. This technology is employed in the ExxonMobil's olefins plants throughout the world, and provides competitive advantages that translate into substantial production cost savings. Our furnace technology is now available for licensing as part of the SCORE ethylene process.

Polymers Technology Licensing

ExxonMobil, a long-time leader in low density polyethylene technology licensing, has now expanded its licensing portfolio to include polypropylene technology.

ExxonMobil high pressure technologies are based on more than 35 years experience developing LDPE products and processes. Our Polymers Technology Licensing program gives access to that experience through autoclave and tubular LDPE production processes.

The ExxonMobil Polypropylene process offers a unique combination of benefits and value, plus the outstanding support and experience of a global leader in technology licensing and polypropylene manufacturing.

Catalyst Technology

From the discovery of the synthetic zeolite ZSM-5 in the late 60's and other zeolites and advanced metal oxides through the 70's and 80's, to the development of the revolutionary mesoporous MCM-41 in the 90's, ExxonMobil continues to be an industry leader in catalysis for refining and petrochemical processes. Combining our core strengths in zeolites and advanced metal oxides catalyst development and commercial manufacture with our extensive experience in refining and petrochemical plant operations, ExxonMobil can bring unique opportunities to the bottom line.

New Business Development

New Business Development handles activities outside of ExxonMobil's established technology licensing portfolio. The activities include:

  • Joint process development programs
  • Joint catalyst development programs for a third party application
  • Evaluating already commercial ExxonMobil catalyst for a third party application
  • Licensing of or immunities under ExxonMobil intellectual property covering non established technologies• Joint process development programs
