New Business Development handles activities outside of ExxonMobil's
established technology licensing portfolio. The activities include:

Joint process development programs

Joint catalyst development programs for a third party application

Evaluating already commercial ExxonMobil catalyst for a third party application

Licensing of or immunities under ExxonMobil intellectual property covering non
established technologies
For instance, you are interested in producing a specific chemical and want to
know if ExxonMobil has a catalyst that is useful in its production. Based on
some general information provided, we determine if we have a commercial
catalyst that might be applicable. A program will be developed to evaluate
these catalysts in our equipment based on a program we develop together. We
also could provide you with samples of our catalysts for you to evaluate in
your equipment.
Another example is you want to produce a
product or use a process claimed in an ExxonMobil patent that we do not
currently produce, practice, or license. We would work with you to establish
a license or immunity grant under these patents which benefits both of
companies.
ExxonMobil resources available for all these
activities include both equipment (catalyst formulation equipment, catalyst
screening units, catalytic pilot plants, and analytical laboratories) and
manpower (catalyst experts, research engineers, process engineers, and
research technicians).
